Mass Islamic Wedding In The City of Kano!

Commercial activities in the ancient city of Kano
were brought to a standstill following a mass
wedding that took place on Tuesday
Hundreds of thousands flocked into the city to
witness the first mass wedding ever conducted
by the state.
The Chief Imam of Kano Central Mosque, Professor
Sani Zaharadeen, under the supervision of the
Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, conducted the
wedding.
The ceremony, which attracted notable clerics in
the city, witnessed the joining together of about
100 widows and divorcees according to Islamic
rites.
The State Government, with the intention of
discouraging marriage collapse in the state,
sponsored the wedding ceremony with the sum
of N15million.
Over 1,000 divorcees and widows will be wedded
in all, following a selection process called match-
making, organised by Hisbah, the state's Sharia
Law enforcement agency. Couples who had
successfully found their match were asked to
undergo HIV test in order to ascertain their
status.
The spokesperson of the Kano Hisbah Board, Musa
Tanko, said the event successfully wedded 100 of
the 1,000 brides to men of their choice. He said
this was the first batch of the programme.
Tanko said the wedding was slated for May 15, in
order to mark this year's anniversary of the
United Nations Family Day.
