Ryan Giggs named best player in Premier League's 20-year history
Manchester City may have wrestled the title
from their grasp, but Manchester United have
been awarded two prestigious honours for their
dominance of the Premier League.
Sir Alex Ferguson was named the best manager
in the Premier League's 20-year history and
Ryan Giggs won the best player award at a
ceremony in central London.
Ferguson, the victim of a taunt by the City
striker Carlos Tevez during the Blues' title-
winning parade in Manchester on Monday, was
not in London on Tuesday. The chief executive
David Gill picked up the award on his behalf.
Giggs did receive his award, which was given to
him after he beat off competition from the likes
of Thierry Henry, Paul Scholes and Dennis
Bergkamp to clinch the vote from a panel of
experts.
Mass Islamic Wedding In The City of Kano!
were brought to a standstill following a mass
wedding that took place on Tuesday
Hundreds of thousands flocked into the city to
witness the first mass wedding ever conducted
by the state.
The Chief Imam of Kano Central Mosque, Professor
Sani Zaharadeen, under the supervision of the
Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, conducted the
wedding.
The ceremony, which attracted notable clerics in
the city, witnessed the joining together of about
100 widows and divorcees according to Islamic
rites.
The State Government, with the intention of
discouraging marriage collapse in the state,
sponsored the wedding ceremony with the sum
of N15million.
Over 1,000 divorcees and widows will be wedded
in all, following a selection process called match-
making, organised by Hisbah, the state's Sharia
Law enforcement agency. Couples who had
successfully found their match were asked to
undergo HIV test in order to ascertain their
status.
The spokesperson of the Kano Hisbah Board, Musa
Tanko, said the event successfully wedded 100 of
the 1,000 brides to men of their choice. He said
this was the first batch of the programme.
Tanko said the wedding was slated for May 15, in
order to mark this year's anniversary of the
United Nations Family Day.

First, Barack Obama, then Jay Z...Will Smith has now joined In Showing Support For Gay Marriage...issorai! Who's next?
stance in support of gay marriage, both Will
Smith and Jay-Z are doing the same. Smith told
reporters in Berlin, "If anybody can find someone
to love them and to help them through this
difficult thing that we call life, I support that in
any shape or form." Jay-Z told the media
yesterday, "I've always thought of it as
something that is holding the country back.
What people do in their own homes is their
business and you can choose to love whoever
you love. That's their business. It's no different
from discrimination against Blacks. It's
discrimination plain and simple."
Meet Beyonce: Singer, Dancer, Actress, Entrepreneur and now Award Winning Journalist!
Beyonce won the NYABJ's journalism award for
her article "Eat, Play, Love."
The talented singer won a journalism award from
the New York Association of Black Journalists
(NYABJ) for her article "Eat, Play, Love," which
was published in Essence magazine's July 2011
edition. The article focused on Beyonce's newborn
daughter Blue Ivy and how she planned on taking
a break from her career to focus on her baby girl
and husband.
Due to Beyonce's fame and modest background,
criticism towards her award was inevitable. Many
argue that since she has not even graduated high
school and somehow magically obtained the
talent to write award-winning literature, her
winning this award probably has something to do
with her being, well, Beyonce. However, NYABJ
president Michael Feeney defended her by saying
"I believe it was selected on content and the
writing and not on her celebrity" in an interview
with The Root. We totally believe you, Feeney.
There are also rumors spinning that the only
reason Essence magazine even published the
article was because its sales were dropping. Well,
having Beyonce's name in fine print on an article
of Essence magazine would make its sales go up,
so this was indeed a smart move on their part.
However, many writers who have worked hard for
years and dedicated insane amounts of time to
researching, interviewing and writing just to get
their five seconds of fame are livid towards
Beyonce for receiving this award. "These types of
awards overlook the real journalists who write
about insightful and sometimes dangerous topics.
Beyonce wrote an article about a 9-month
vacation," said Mused writer Amber Rose, in an
interview with The Root.
Regardless, whether Beyonce wins an award for
journalism or is elected for presidency, she will
always be Beyonce, and America will always be
slightly obsessed with her.

Man Assaults His Neighbor (Widow With Nine Kids) And Removes Her Teeth.
The suspect was arrested at the weekend following complaint by one Ebere Ogbonna that Ekpo beat her following her refusal to date him
Ogbonna, a widow and a mother of nine, told police officers that Ekpo had threatened to kill her following her refusal to date him. "I lost my husband some years back and I have been struggling to fend for my nine boys," she said.
"I had twins three times, and since their father died I have catered for them. Sometime last year, Monday asked me to date him but I refused. For more than three occasions, he attempted to rape me in my one room apartment. We are neighbours. He was bent on sleeping with me but I told him I was not interested; this angered him and he told me he will make my life a living hell."
The victim said her initial efforts to involve officers of the Iponri Police Station proved abortive as Ekpo is said to be a leader of a youth gang in the area.
"On April 5th, I attended a friend's child naming ceremony, Monday was there and he attacked me saying that he was the chairman and I should leave," she said. "He pushed and shoved me out of the room, and as I resisted him, he slapped me on the face. I went to report him to the elders in the community and as they called him to warn him from assaulting me, Monday descended on me and beat me to a stupor. Sympathisers took me to the hospital where I later woke up and found out that Monday had removed my three teeth."
Agbodimu Musbau, the Community Development Association Chairman of the area, said residents of the community were appalled by the incident.
"Ebere is a widow and also a member of the vigilante group in the area," he said. "When the matter was reported, we took it up and arrested Monday and handed him over to the police at the Iponri Police Station, but we were shocked when Monday was released the same day as his gang went to the police station to threaten the officers to release him or face their wrath.
