Meet Beyonce: Singer, Dancer, Actress, Entrepreneur and now Award Winning Journalist!

Is there really anything this lady can't do? Ah ahn! Save some for us Bey!
Beyonce won the NYABJ's journalism award for
her article "Eat, Play, Love."
The talented singer won a journalism award from
the New York Association of Black Journalists
(NYABJ) for her article "Eat, Play, Love," which
was published in Essence magazine's July 2011
edition. The article focused on Beyonce's newborn
daughter Blue Ivy and how she planned on taking
a break from her career to focus on her baby girl
and husband.
Due to Beyonce's fame and modest background,
criticism towards her award was inevitable. Many
argue that since she has not even graduated high
school and somehow magically obtained the
talent to write award-winning literature, her
winning this award probably has something to do
with her being, well, Beyonce. However, NYABJ
president Michael Feeney defended her by saying
"I believe it was selected on content and the
writing and not on her celebrity" in an interview
with The Root. We totally believe you, Feeney.
There are also rumors spinning that the only
reason Essence magazine even published the
article was because its sales were dropping. Well,
having Beyonce's name in fine print on an article
of Essence magazine would make its sales go up,
so this was indeed a smart move on their part.
However, many writers who have worked hard for
years and dedicated insane amounts of time to
researching, interviewing and writing just to get
their five seconds of fame are livid towards
Beyonce for receiving this award. "These types of
awards overlook the real journalists who write
about insightful and sometimes dangerous topics.
Beyonce wrote an article about a 9-month
vacation," said Mused writer Amber Rose, in an
interview with The Root.
Regardless, whether Beyonce wins an award for
journalism or is elected for presidency, she will
always be Beyonce, and America will always be
slightly obsessed with her.
